Good Morning

Summary

The sandbag good morning is a hip hinging movement pattern just like the deadlift, however as the load is held in various positions of the upper body e.g. Bear hug, zercher or back, it places a bigger emphasis on the core.


Exercise Steps

From the standing position:

  1. Break first at the hips, slight flexion at knees
  2. Hips move back, aiming to get torso parallel to ground
  3. Hips move forward back to starting upright position

Key points

  • Start and finish with good posture
  • Maintain neutral spine (straight back / neck)
  • Should feel hamstrings load up and weight on your heels
  • Squeeze glutes at top of movement
